Role Description

The Urban Accountant Inc is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Tax Specialist to support tax preparation services for individuals and small business clients. This role is critical to ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant tax filings. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a client-focused mindset to support senior accountants and deliver high-quality tax services. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, maintain client records, and contribute to the efficiency and accuracy of our accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare personal and small business tax returns with accuracy and compliance, ensuring all documentation is complete.
  • Enter, reconcile, and organize client financial data to support tax preparation.
  • Maintain timely records and monitor deadlines to ensure tax filings are submitted on schedule.
  • Communicate with clients to collect information, follow up on inquiries, and resolve basic tax-related questions.
  • Assist senior accountants by preparing supporting schedules and documentation for review.
  • Support GST/HST filings, payroll data, and other compliance-related tasks.
  • Contribute to workflow improvements and operational efficiency within the tax preparation process.
  • Organize digital and paper files to ensure audit readiness and maintain accurate records.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • College diploma or degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in tax preparation or bookkeeping for individuals and small businesses.
  • Knowledge of Canadian income tax, T1, T2, T2125, and GST/HST filings.
  • Proficiency with tax software (e.g., TaxPrep, Profile, FutureTax) and accounting tools (e.g., QuickBooks).
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a client-focused approach.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and collaborative — able to work independently while supporting the team’s goals.
  • Bilingual abilities are an asset.
