About The Role
The Specialist, Technical Writing at L3Harris will play a vital role in creating, editing, and managing technical documentation vital for operational success. This position involves collaborating with engineering, design, and operational teams to gather detailed technical information and translate it into clear, comprehensive manuals and publications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical communication within aerospace or defense environments, with experience producing manuals such as flight operations, maintenance, and parts catalogs.
This role requires a meticulous individual capable of understanding complex technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering principles. The Specialist will ensure all documentation complies with industry standards, military specifications, and regulatory guidelines, supporting our commitment to quality and operational excellence. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to mission-critical projects that impact national security while working in a dynamic, team‑oriented environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with at least four years of technical writing experience, or a graduate degree with two years of relevant experience.
- Alternatively, a minimum of eight years of technical writing experience in aerospace or defense industries will also be considered.
- Demonstrated proficiency in technical writing tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Solid understanding of industry standards such as ATA100, ATA iSpec 2200, MIL‑PRF‑38807C, MIL‑STD‑2361C, MIL‑STD‑37874, and S1000D.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance; an active clearance is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to gather technical information and understand specifications.
- Compile, organize, and structure technical data for the development of manuals and documentation, including schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Author and generate content for various technical publications such as flight manuals, maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, and Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA).
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible documentation suitable for end‑users and technical personnel.
- Ensure all documentation adheres to industry standards, military specifications, and regulatory guidelines, including DoD and FAA requirements.
- Review and edit technical documents to maintain accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
- Work closely with project management to meet deadlines, budgets, and deliverables while maintaining high‑quality standards.
- Recommend improvements to systems, processes, and documentation practices to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to meet project milestones.
- Stay updated on industry standards and regulatory changes affecting technical documentation.
