A leading technology company in the augmented reality space is developing next‑generation metrology and characterization methods for advanced display and optical systems. The mission is to push the state of the art in display and optical technologies for AR products. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Optical Testing Engineer to join the Product Test Engineering team.
In this role, you will work closely with cross‑functional teams to define requirements and lead the development, qualification, and deployment of optical metrology equipment used to characterize optical modules and complete systems for AR products.
Responsibilities
- Define, design, and develop optical metrology solutions, including hardware engineering, test software implementation, and instrument qualification
- Develop benchtop and production‑ready instrumentation to characterize complex optical modules and integrated display and optics systems
- Collect, analyze, and statistically evaluate metrology data and correlate results with system performance metrics
- Investigate and develop novel optical metrology technologies in collaboration with external suppliers
- Lead the full tester development lifecycle based on engineering requirement specifications, with full ownership from R&D through mass‑production transfer
- Establish and execute tester alignment and calibration procedures to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and system performance
- Collaborate with optical and system design teams to clarify and refine performance metric definitions for test solution implementation
- Up to 30% domestic and international travel may be required
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related discipline
- Hands‑on experience in optical metrology development from concept phase through system validation
- Strong knowledge of imaging optics, image quality metrics, optical metrology, and optical characterization techniques
- Experience with test automation, instrument control, and data analysis using LabVIEW, MATLAB, or Python
- Proficiency in statistical data analysis using tools such as Minitab or JMP
- Professional working proficiency in English
- Strong communication and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or an advanced degree with at least 3 years of practical experience
- Prior experience in the AR/VR or related advanced display technology field
- Familiarity with display quality metrics and color science
- In‑depth knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE), Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), and Measurement System Analysis
- Experience in image processing and algorithm development
- Experience with optical design and simulation tools such as Zemax, Code V, LightTools, or FRED
- Experience programming Automated Test Equipment (ATE), such as Teradyne or Advantest systems
