Retirement Plan Analyst
Job Summary
Responsible for supporting RWJBarnabas Health’s retirement programs.
Ensures regulatory deadlines are met and guidelines are adhered to.
The Retirement Analyst will work closely with Payroll, Finance, Audit, and retirement plan providers to ensure items, such as compliance, nondiscrimination testing, plan data, plan contributions and distributions are being handled correctly and timely.
Essential Functions
- Supports RWJBH team members and other internal colleagues by assisting with escalated issues; develops solutions and recommends appropriate actions
- Participates on the annual plan audits and provides support for inquiries
- Performs monthly allocation reports for Finance
- Audits and supports quarterly calculation of the retirement plan’s non‑elective contributions
- Reviews and processes monthly invoices for retirement plan providers
- Coordinates and reviews annual nondiscrimination testing
- Tracks annual company contributions, including projections for qualified and non‑qualified retirement plans
- Supports inquiries with the defined benefit and defined contribution plans and analyzes data for accuracy
- Reviews vendor SOC1 reporting and works with plan vendors and auditors as needed
- Serves as the primary respondent for internal inquiries through the internal portal MSP
- Collaborates with internal partners in accounting, treasury, audit, etc., and plan providers to oversee compliance internal and external and identify and implement control updates and process improvements
- Coordinates with various recordkeepers for distribution requests
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the manager’s discretion
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field preferred
- Willingness to gain retirement and benefits expertise through retirement certification coursework and independent learning
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2+ years benefits experience with a retirement focus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Technical Knowledge
- General understanding of ERISA, IRS Code, and DOL regulations
- Strong aptitude and knowledge of Excel with overall ability to generate, modify, re‑create workbooks i.e.; Pivot tables, v‑look‑up, formulas, reporting, graphing, etc. PeopleSoft experience a plus
- Retirement Plan certification CRP, CEBS, RPA, etc. preferred
Analytical Skills
- General quantitative, analytical, and problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
- Experience with plan testing ADP/ACP, top‑heavy, coverage testing
- Strong knowledge and extensive experience with retirement administration and analysis for following plan design, modification, and administration
- Ability to demonstrate judgement, qualitative, quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to highlight and/or summarize key data findings not just generate reports
- Analyze plan utilization, costs, and effectiveness to recommend improvements
Communication Skills
- General written and verbal communication abilities
- Experience presenting to diverse audiences including executives and employees
Project Management Skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy in regulatory compliance
Abilities
