Job Summary
The Education Data Scientist supports continuous improvement and equitable student outcomes by leading district and site level data collection, analysis, and reporting efforts through the use of advanced analytics and program evaluation.
Duties & Responsibilities
Design, implement, and continuously improve data collection, integration, and analysis tools and dashboards to support instructional and organizational decision‑making
Tasks involved:
- Research, evaluate, and recommend data collection, integration, and analysis tools for use district-wide (e.g. assessment platforms, survey tools, data warehouses, dashboards).
- Design, build, and maintain data dashboards and self‑service reports that provide timely actionable data for schools and departments (e.g. PowerBI).
- Provide on‑going learning and technical support for teachers and principals in use of data management tools and systems (e.g. FastBridge, RTI Stored, Qualtrics, Insights & Analytics, PowerBI).
- Monitor and document the performance, usability, and effectiveness of data management tools and systems and recommend improvements.
- Support the design and implementation of district programs and policies by providing data, modeling scenarios, and simulating potential impacts.
- Stay current with research and emerging practices in educational data science, assessment, and learning analytics.
Apply statistical analysis, predictive analysis, and program evaluation methods to provide recommendations and present on student learning, organizational performance, and equity
Tasks involved:
- Research, evaluate, and recommend data collection, integration, and analysis tools for use district-wide (e.g. assessment platforms, survey tools, data warehouses, dashboards).
- Design, build, and maintain data dashboards and self‑service reports that provide timely actionable data for schools and departments (e.g. PowerBI).
- Provide on‑going learning and technical support for teachers and principals in use of data management tools and systems (e.g. FastBridge, RTI Stored, Qualtrics, Insights & Analytics, PowerBI).
- Monitor and document the performance, usability, and effectiveness of data management tools and systems and recommend improvements.
- Support the design and implementation of district programs and policies by providing data, modeling scenarios, and simulating potential impacts.
- Stay current with research and emerging practices in educational data science, assessment, and learning analytics.
Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and ethical use in alignment with district policies, state and federal requirements, and best practices in data governance
Tasks involved:
- Define and document data standards, data definitions, and validation rules to promote consistency.
- Collaborate with technology, legal, and student services teams to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g. FERPA) and ethical use of data.
- Support required reporting and submissions by preparing accurate, timely datasets and summaries for the requestor, as needed.
- Support the ongoing maintenance of the Standard Operating Procedures documents.
Identify staff needs, using formal and informal staff assessment tools and assist in planning and conducting in‑service activities
Tasks involved:
- Assess and analyze professional learning needs in areas such as data literacy, data analysis, data management system use (i.e., Insights & Analytics, FastBridge, RTI Stored), data template use and others.
- Develop and facilitate a feedback system for staff needs.
- Assist in delivering relevant training.

Essential Knowledge and Specialized Subject Knowledge
- Knowledge of data systems, balanced assessment framework, and data tools
- Knowledge of current trends in student assessment and program evaluation
- Skilled in using computer applications, including data tools and programming languages, such as Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, SQL, MnMTSS, Python, PowerBI, SPSS, VS Code, and other statistical software
- Ability to perform data collection, cleaning, integration, manipulation, transformation, analysis, and interpretation across multiple systems and data types
- Skilled in applying statistical methods and program evaluation techniques to answer complex educational questions
- Ability to design and maintain dashboards, visualizations, and reports that support decision‑making
- Skilled in presenting and communicating complex information with a diverse set of leaders in a clear, meaningful, and accurate way
- Ability to translate technical findings into compelling narratives, visualizations and recommendations for non‑technical audiences, including school board members, district leaders, principals, teachers, and community partners
- Ability to collaborate to ensure that sites are supported and the needs of each student are met
- Knowledge of project planning and management
- Ability to anticipate needs and prioritize work based on the Strategic Plan of the district and Operational plans of the departments and sites
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of graduate‑level education equivalent to at least two (2) full years of study toward a master’s or doctoral degree in Data Science, Statistics, Educational Measurement, Quantitative Methods, Education, Psychology or a closely related field.
Salary Range
Pay Grade 117 Salaried Professionals Contract; Hiring Range: $110,160 – $134,946.
