Universitätsspital Zürich USZ
About the role
About
The unit of Molecular Pathology at the Department of Pathology and Molecular Pathology at the University Hospital Zurich, is a leading unit for developments in precision medicine including tumor genomics and multi-omics data integration. The diagnostic analyses include numerous modern omics-methods and cutting edge technologies: Whole genome sequencing, bulk RNA sequencing, methylation array, digital pathology, panel sequencing. Our scientists analyze the raw data of these assays to create diagnostic reports, develop new methods and support research projects.
Your main tasks
- Independent analysis, quality control, and interpretation of NGS and multi-omics data in a diagnostic setting
- Development, validation, and implementation of bioinformatics pipelines for routine molecular diagnostics
- Immunogenomics analyses with clinically relevant interpretation
- Application of machine learning / AI methods to omics data, with emphasis on robustness and interpretability
- Translation of new methods into routine diagnostics, including documentation and validation
- Preparation of clinical reports in collaboration with pathologists and molecular biologists
- Support in training medical and laboratory staff in data interpretation and bioinformatics workflows
Your profile
- MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Medical Informatics, or a related field
- Strong experience in NGS/omics data analysis in an applied setting
- Proficiency in Python and/or R (Bioconductor)
- Strong understanding of molecular biology and genetics, with the ability to interpret data in a biological and clinical context
- Solid understanding of statistics and machine learning
- Experience with workflow management systems (Nextflow, Snakemake) and containerization (Docker/Singularity)
- Excellent analytical, communication, and writing skills
- English required, German is an advantage
Preferred qualifications: experience in cancer genomics, immunogenomics, transcriptomics or epigenetics, metagenomics, AI-based image analysis, data management/structured reporting, integrative multi-omics, or work in a clinical/medical environment.
