Job Description
26North is seeking a Fund Accountant to support our growing alternatives platform across Private Equity, Private Credit, and Insurance investment strategies. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate fund books and records, executing monthly/quarterly closes, partnering with investment teams and key stakeholders, and overseeing third‑party administrators and audit processes.
The ideal candidate brings a strong alternatives accounting foundation, thrives in a high‑growth environment, and is excited to take ownership of critical deliverables while continuously improving processes and infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Fund Close, NAV & Core Accounting
- Own the monthly/quarterly close for assigned funds and vehicles, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and GAAP‑based NAV calculations.
- Maintain complete and accurate general ledgers, trial balances, and supporting schedules across Private Equity, Credit, and Insurance strategies.
- Review trading activity, investment transactions, and cash movements; ensure timely and accurate booking in partnership with Operations and Investment teams.
- Perform variance analysis and develop clear explanations of performance drivers for internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and review capital calls, distributions, subscriptions/redemptions (where applicable), and investor allocation schedules.
- Calculate and review management fees, incentive fees/carry, waterfalls, and other complex fund economics in accordance with governing documents.
Financial Reporting & Audit Support
- Lead preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, footnote support, and reporting packages for internal and external use.
- Coordinate and manage year‑end audits, serving as a primary point of contact for external auditors.
- Support regulatory and client reporting needs, including data for Form PF, ADV, NAIC/insurance‑adjacent reporting, or other filings as relevant to the platform.
- Oversee deliverables from third‑party administrators, including NAV packages, capital activity reporting, and financial statements.
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify and implement opportunities to automate, streamline, and enhance close, reporting, and data workflows.
- Assist in the development and optimization of fund accounting tools, templates, and controls.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA preferred
- 2–4 years of fund accounting, financial reporting, or audit experience within alternatives.
- Experience across private credit, private equity, insurance/reinsurance investment platforms, or complex multi‑vehicle structures preferred.
- Preference for experience in a leading public accounting firm (FS/alternatives audit)
- Highly rated and willing to provide reviews from current or past employment
- Exceptional knowledge of US GAAP and alternatives fund accounting concepts (NAV, allocations, fees, carry/waterfalls, capital activity).
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with fund accounting systems such as Allvue (AltaReturn), Investran, eFront, Geneva, VPM, Wall Street Office, or similar is a plus.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑moving environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to partner effectively with senior stakeholders.

Base Salary: Expected to be between $100,000.00 and $140,000.00. The base salary offered to the chosen candidate will be commensurate with a candidate’s relevant experience and other qualifications for the position, as determined by the Company in its sole discretion.
