We are seeking individuals qualified to work as a Machine Learning Research Scientist to support the mission of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
This is a long-term contract position which offers:

This position is responsible for leading multimodal data integration, machine learning and simulation modeling, and supporting human subjects research activities to advance understanding of substance use, treatment outcomes, and recovery.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong publication record, including peer-reviewed scientific papers as first author, senior author, or contributing middle author, reflecting substantive contributions to computational modeling, machine learning, AI-driven research, or digital health studies.
Duties Include
- Design and conduct experiments applying broad knowledge of scientific theories and principles, with emphasis on computational, statistical, and simulation-based methodologies
- Propose and investigate new research targets based on novelty and relevance to human health, advancing the laboratory's overall scientific mission
- Independently direct and lead high-priority special research projects, including the development of novel research treatments
- Oversee project data quality; analyze, interpret, and communicate research data through reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed manuscripts
- Conduct bioinformatics and statistical analyses; prepare data and figures for abstracts and publications
- Provide technical guidance to laboratory staff on computational modeling, machine learning methods, and data analysis strategies
- Collaborate with investigators and postdoctoral scientists to translate research questions into quantitative modeling and data-driven study designs
- Develop and share analytical tools, scripts, and reproducible workflows to support laboratory research activities
- Operate, troubleshoot, and train laboratory staff on equipment, software, data acquisition, and experimental design
- Maintain a detailed and up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook and participate in resource allocation planning for ongoing and projected research studies
Requirements
- Minimum Master's degree and 5 years of experience
- PhD plus 2 years experience is equivalent
