Position Overview
Brown and Caldwell (BC) is seeking an Onsite Construction Manager or Engineer with an established track record to perform subcontractor oversight and/or Owner's Advisor (OA) services at a wide variety of project sites around the country. The successful candidate will support Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)/Design‑Build projects focused on Industrial Water/Wastewater Infrastructure, Remediation Construction, and Industrial Process/Mechanical work for clients in the market sectors of Energy, Production, and Distribution.
- Significant travel required; deployments range from 1‑2 weeks up to several months, often to remote locations.
- Rotations home typically every 2 weeks; vacation time is flexible but must be coordinated with the project team.
- Travel costs reimbursed via per diem or expense reports, depending on project‑specific requirements or limits.
The Construction Manager/Engineer will oversee all onsite operations, implement BC’s safety and quality programs, develop and manage project schedules, coordinate subcontractors, manage risk, review subcontractor pay applications, and track production, change management, submittals, and RFIs. The role collaborates closely with the project director, project engineer, and project manager, and serves as a liaison between BC design team members and field subcontractors.
Responsibilities
- Be a great partner with the project staff and lead the “ThinkSharp” culture initiatives.
- Lead and monitor the work planning process.
- Review, understand, and monitor material & equipment budgets; assist in the procurement process.
- Coordinate equipment rentals with the project manager to maximize usage; review and coordinate billings to assure accurate accounting and billing of rentals and material purchases.
- Consistently monitor project costs (labor, materials, equipment) and identify opportunities for improvement/savings; review possible solutions with the project manager/director and promptly implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with owners, engineers, and inspectors.
- Provide leadership in the project’s quality program; identify and encourage new methods and procedures; conduct pre‑task planning meetings with subcontractors and vendors.
- Provide leadership in safety and accident‑prevention programs; institute and participate in tailgate safety meetings; perform regular job‑site inspections; review and implement corrective actions for unsafe conditions; thoroughly review all accidents and implement preventive measures.
- Develop project‑specific site‑specific H&S plans and quality‑control plans.
- Conduct weekly coordination meetings with subcontractors to review safety, quality, and scheduling matters; ensure timely issuance of meeting minutes.
- Work closely with the project manager to regularly update project schedules based on field progress and subcontractor input.
- Manage subcontractor submittals and RFIs, assign team members for review, and prepare/send responses to subcontractors.
- Interface with project stakeholders such as owners, regulators, and other third‑party stakeholders.
- Assist with start‑up and commissioning of plant processes and equipment; coordinate vendors, prepare/review work plans, oversee functional testing, etc.
- Assist business development and marketing teams, as necessary, to pursue new work opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS Degree in Construction Management, Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical, etc.), Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of increasing responsibility, professional experience in the design and construction administration of municipal water and wastewater facilities with previous construction manager responsibility.
- Experience overseeing and managing various construction practices, including but not limited to heavy civil work, industrial water, electrical, process mechanical, remediation, etc.
- Operations and maintenance experience.
- Experience with start‑up, commissioning, and troubleshooting of plant processes and equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work well both independently and on a team.
- Current and valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Knowledge of standard professional software such as MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with project scheduling (P6, MS Project) and construction management systems (Procore).
- Experience developing project cost estimating.
- Experience overseeing installation of electrical systems such as SCADA/I&C hardware/software.
- Current Water Treatment Operator Certification or Current Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification/License.
Salary Range
The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may vary depending on skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
- Location A: $72,000 – $98,000
- Location B: $79,000 – $108,000
- Location C: $87,000 – $118,000
