The Research and Development Data Scientist Associate plays a crucial role in planning, developing, and executing data science analyses for research and development initiatives at the ETS Research Institute. This position emphasizes applying advanced data science, statistics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to draw inferences and predictions from diverse data sources. We seek a candidate with expertise in modern frameworks and cloud computing environments to support innovative research in educational measurement and assessment.

Primary Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities:

• Collect, preprocess, and manage structured and unstructured data from various sources, ensuring data quality and integrity.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and actionable insights.

Model Development and Evaluation

• Design, implement, and validate predictive models and machine-learning algorithms using frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn.
• Experiment with large language models and generative AI techniques, including working with AI APIs and prompt engineering, to support groundbreaking research.

Deployment and Scalability

• Create and maintain pipelines for model deployment in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) to ensure scalability and reproducibility.

Research and Collaboration

• Collaborate with scientists and multidisciplinary research teams to align data science initiatives with program objectives.
• Contribute to technical reports, presentations, and publications to communicate research findings effectively.
• Clearly convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Proven research experience in education or a closely related field.
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or R for data analysis and modeling.
• Hands-on experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, and other machine learning frameworks.
• Familiarity with generative AI methods and their practical applications.
• Sound understanding of statistical methods, experimental design, and data visualization techniques.
• Ability to work within cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS) for model deployment and data processing.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with adaptability to changing research priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills conducive to collaborative research settings.
• Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and reliability in data analysis, modeling, and reporting.

Education:

Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• The advertised base salary range reflects the low and high end of the anticipated pay for this role. Actual base pay will consider internal equity and may vary based on geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay is one component of the Total Rewards Package for the successful candidate.

Salary Range:

$110,000 - $120,000
