Role Overview
Ne are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist with deep expertise in alternative credit scoring and agriculture to lead the development of an innovative credit scoring model. This model will enable a major bank to assess credit worthiness for smallholder farmers using non-traditional data sources, unlocking affordable ending to boost agricultural productivity in emerging markets. You will build and deploy a credit scoring model for a bank focused or lending to farmers. You will work with structured and alternative data sources to assess credit worthiness where traditional fmancial data is limited, You will translate raw data into risk insights thar drive lending decisions in agriculture.

Key Responsibilities • Design and develop credit scoring models tailored to smallholder and commercial farmers. • Integrate alternative data sources such as mobile transactions satellite data, weather patterns, farm yield records, and market prices. • Clean, process, and analyze large datasets using Python and SAu • Perform feature engineering focused on agricultural risk indicators such as seasonality, crop cycles, and regional risks. • Build and evaluate machine learning models including classi fication and regression models. • Apply techniques such as cross validation and hyperparameter tuning to improve model accuracy. • Develop risk segmentation frameworks for different farmer profiles. • Create dashboards and reports for bank stakeholders using tool like Power BI or Tableau lending policies. • Work closely with credit and product teams to align models with lending policies. • Monitor model performance and update models based on new data.
Core Stills Required • Strong Python skills with experience in Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn.
Solid sql knowledge including joins, CTEs, and data querying. • Experience in machine learning, especially classification models. • Understanding of statistics, probability, and regression analysis Data visualization skills using Power BI, Tableau, or similar tool. • Experience with data cleaning, transformation, and feature extraction. • Ability to communicate technical insights in simple terms Preferred Experience • Experience working with alternative credit scoring models • Ex posure to agricultural data or agritech systems • Experience using data scraping tools or APIs for data collection • Knowledge of time series analysis for seasonal data patterns • Familiarity with geospatial or satellite data is a plus
