About the Role

Senior Principal Engineer – Mechanical, Water
Location: Chennai / Noida / Gurugram

You will be part of the Water Department, responsible for mechanical design of water and wastewater treatment plants and for checking the drawings/models produced by CAD technicians/modellers. The role requires solid knowledge of water and wastewater treatment technology and the ability to maintain high‑quality deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Team Lead/Project Manager and other engineering staff (Assistant Engineer, Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer, Technical Manager) to deliver scheduled mechanical design tasks.
• Produce 2D drawings and 3D models for mechanical design.
• Perform design checks of drawings/models created by CAD technicians/modellers.
• Prepare General Arrangement drawings, detailed engineering drawings, general layouts, hydraulics, piping layouts, and P&IDs.
• Design pump stations and lift stations, adhering to American Hydraulic Institute standards.
• Conduct surge analysis and water‑hammer studies.
• Prepare mechanical datasheets, equipment lists, piping, valve, and penstock schedules.
• Support interdisciplinary coordination with electrical, instrumentation, and civil teams as needed.

Required Skills & Knowledge

• Good knowledge of pipe, valve, and fitting standards and Indian/international codes.
• Familiarity with electromechanical equipment for water and wastewater treatment (pumps, blowers, mechanical screens, scrapers, air diffusers, dewatering equipment, pressure vessels, chemical storage/dosing tanks, dosing skids, lifting equipment, pipes, valves/sluice gates, etc.).
• Experience preparing General Arrangement drawings and detailed engineering drawings in 2D; preference for candidates with 3D drawing experience using AutoCAD Plant 3D or Revit.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design for pump stations and lift stations; knowledge of American Hydraulic Institute standards.
• Knowledge of surge analysis and water‑hammer studies.
• Understanding of wastewater treatment technologies (e.g., conventional ASP with nitrogen and phosphorus removal, CASP with power generation, extended aeration processes such as MLE, A20, sequencing batch reactor, advanced treatment with MBR and MBBR/IFAS).
• Ability to prepare mechanical datasheets, equipment lists, and piping/valve/penstock schedules.
• Basic knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and civil disciplines (desirable).
• Experience with Bill of Quantities estimation and costing (desirable).
• Self‑motivated team player, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in design/drawing software (AutoCAD 2D, MS Excel); experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D/Revit is a plus.

Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from a reputable institute.
• 12–15 years of experience in mechanical design of water and wastewater treatment plants.
• Good knowledge of design codes such as ASME, ANSI, DIN, or other international standards.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) in professional English.
• Ability to coordinate within a team to ensure timely project delivery.
