Stage data science H/F - Poisoning attack against generative models
Orange SA
About the role
About the Internship
The internship is part of Orange's Flux Vision project, which aims to analyze people's mobility and presence in a territory using location data from the mobile network, while protecting privacy. To achieve this, Orange has developed a synthetic trajectory data generator to produce anonymized and representative data. The main objective of the internship is to conceptualize, develop, and test a methodology for poisoning attacks against these generators. This involves studying how to alter the model's learning process to influence the quality or confidentiality of synthetic data, while remaining difficult to detect.
Main Activities
Key activities include an in-depth study of the literature on poisoning attacks, particularly in the context of generative models and neural networks. The intern will need to familiarize themselves with existing trajectory generation models, understand their architecture and functioning, and then conduct experiments to evaluate their vulnerability to different perturbations. They will also be responsible for defining attack scenarios illustrating the potential impact on privacy and statistical representativeness of the data, showing how these attacks can manipulate or degrade the quality of synthetic data.
Subsequently, the intern will design and implement adapted poisoning strategies, training models subjected to simulated attacks, and evaluating their effectiveness in manipulating the output while remaining discreet. The validation of these methods will be done using a performance evaluation methodology, employing relevant metrics to measure the impact on data distribution, attack detection, and privacy protection. Finally, recommendations will be proposed to strengthen the robustness of generators against these threats.
Expected Results
The expected results are a better understanding of poisoning attack techniques in this context, concrete scenarios illustrating their feasibility, an operational attack methodology with exploitable prototypes, as well as avenues for improving the security and confidentiality of synthetic data generators.
Team and Environment
The intern will be integrated into a multidisciplinary team, working in an agile mode, with supervision by an experienced referent, in an innovative environment combining research, development, and security challenges related to data protection.
