The research area »Digital Business« at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organization IAO works on national and international research, development, and consulting projects to make the potential of quantum computers usable for industry and society.

The Fraunhofer Lab for Quantum Computing Stuttgart-Heilbronn combines the expertise of the Fraunhofer Institute IAO and the Fraunhofer Institute IPA under a common vision. We unite researchers from physics, mathematics, computer science, communication sciences, economics, and political science, as well as leading professors, to drive excellent research, agile strategies, and interdisciplinary collaboration – and thus shape the future of quantum computing. At the dynamically growing innovation and AI location Heilbronn, you will work closely with quantum physicists, researchers, and engineers.

Your Role

You will work in an interdisciplinary team on innovative and exciting research topics and projects with the following activities:

• Development of quantum computing methods for block encoding
• Organization and management of a quantum computing demonstrator laboratory
• Development of software modules for technology transfer
• Execution of circuits on real quantum computers (incl. pre- and postprocessing)
• Dissemination of results in scientific publications and presentations

Your Profile

• Excellent academic university degree in physics, mathematics, or a comparable course of study
• Interest in pursuing a doctorate
• Proven experience in block encoding, demonstrated through publications
• Experience in developing methods for solving systems of equations with quantum computing
• Experience in quantum simulation
• Experience in setting up and operating quantum mechanical demonstrators
• Excellent German and English skills, as well as strong communication skills

The position is initially limited to 2 years. Long-term continued employment is aimed for. The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis.

Employment, remuneration, and social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD). Additionally, Fraunhofer may grant performance- and success-related variable remuneration components.
